Mt. Hutt (6800 ft) is the highest ski field in New Zealand; Methven is the small, colorful town that sits at its base. Both are located two hours inland from Christchurch, the largest city on the South Island. I landed a job as a housekeeper, receptionist, and handyman at a backpacker's lodge in Methven. I worked every other day in exchange for a room at the lodge and a free season's pass to Mt. Hutt. One of the best jobs I've ever had.
