On the eastern coast of the North Island, Hawkes Bay is like a greenhouse. Known for its wine, strawberries, and other agriculture, the region is hot, hilly, and historic. I got a tan while working on a strawberry farm and later on a local vineyard, and a good dose of culture in Napier, a large coastal town and a living Art Deco museum.
