The peninsula juts into the Caribbean Sea like a desert-y finger, and at the northernmost point (also the northernmost point of the entire South American continent) is Punta Gallinas, an otherworldly orange and turquoise paradise. There's not much to do except rock in thick, locally made hammocks and watch the goats go by. Jeni and I planned on spending two days; we stayed for seven.
